Summer, sun, beautiful skin – in the warm season, many people are increasingly drawn outside again to enjoy the pleasant weather in nature. Sunlight not only boosts vitamin D production and provides warmth, it also has a positive effect on the psyche. Light and time spent in nature reduce stress and fatigue and lift the mood. As good as the sun can be for us, it can be a burden on the skin and contribute to premature skin ageing. In addition to sun damage such as sunburn or pigmentation disorders, UV radiation also promotes the formation of wrinkles. What is the best way to counteract this process? What care and tips help in summer? And which wrinkle treatments are there?
There are different types of wrinkles
Wrinkles are caused by different triggers. On the one hand, the elasticity of the tissue decreases with increasing age, as the body produces less hyaluronic acid and collagen. This also reduces the youthful volume of the face or other parts of the body. As a result, the areas slacken and the so-called orthostatic wrinkles (gravity-induced wrinkles) appear. These can be reduced primarily with the help of hyaluronic acid treatments by plumping them up from the inside out.
The second type of wrinkle is the so-called mimic wrinkle. They are also known as dynamic wrinkles and are caused by the tension of the muscles that repeatedly compress the skin. This causes the typical indentations to form in the skin, which become more pronounced over time. Here too, the natural loss of elasticity has an additional influence on the formation of wrinkles. Botox® is particularly suitable for treating expression lines. Botulinum toxin relaxes the muscles and helps to smooth the skin.
In addition, there are superficial “creases” that appear mainly around the mouth, on the cheeks, on the chin or on the forehead. They are primarily caused by exposure to UV radiation and nicotine.
Prevent expression lines in summer
The formation of expression lines can be more pronounced in summer. This happens, for example, when we squint our eyes in bright light. This causes us to wrinkle our forehead and draw our eyebrows closer together. This muscle tension contributes to horizontal forehead wrinkles or the so-called frown lines between the eyebrows, among other things.
To counteract this process, it is advisable to protect the eyes from the sun. Sunglasses or shielding headgear, for example, can be used to prevent the eyes from squinting and wrinkles on the forehead, eye area and nose. Light Botox® treatments can also be considered as a preventative measure to relax the skin as a precaution. This also reduces the risk of expression lines developing in summer.
It is also advisable to use eye care with a sun protection factor. This provides additional protection for the delicate eyelid skin.
Sun protection and sunbathing
An important factor in summer, which we have already mentioned in our previous articles, is sun protection. Always use an appropriate sun cream or lotion that optimally complements your natural skin protection. In everyday life, a sun protection factor of 30 is recommended, while SPF 50 or 50+ is recommended when spending time in the sun. In addition, do not spend time in direct sunlight at midday, as this is when UV exposure is at its highest and increases the risk of skin damage.
Moisture for the skin
In the warm summer months, it is particularly important to ensure that the body is well hydrated. Not only is the intake of sufficient water important for important bodily functions, but also for a fresh and beautiful complexion. In addition to absorbing water through food and drink, the skin can also be supplied with moisture from the outside. Special moisturizing creams and lotions are suitable for this purpose. The skin can also be supplied with fluid in depth with targeted treatments.
Suitable treatments for a fresh complexion in summer
Supporting treatments during the summer include, for example injections with hyaluronic acid or the HydraFacial™ for example. The HydraFacial™ removes impurities and soothes the skin. Once the skin channels are opened, vitamins, antioxidants and moisture can be channeled deep into the skin to support a healthy, fresh and youthful complexion.
Hyaluronic acid also has a positive effect on the moisture balance and also helps to reduce annoying wrinkles and volume deficits. It can be injected under the skin in an outpatient treatment.
Other treatments for a fresh complexion in summer include chemical peelings or a microneedling are also available. In any case, sun protection should be taken into account after the treatments in order to prevent darkening of the treatment areas or skin damage. In the case of annoying pigment spots, a gentle laser treatment can also help to reduce them.
