There are various aesthetic treatment methods for young and smooth skin. The most modern procedures include
radio frequency microneedling
(RF microneedling), which combines classic microneedling with highly focused radio frequency energy. This enables the skin to be restructured from deep within, visibly rejuvenating and firming the skin. The treatment stimulates the body’s own collagen production, which in turn supports long-lasting results. In this article, we will show you how the treatment works in detail. What does skin resurfacing mean?
In aesthetic medicine, skin resurfacing refers to the renewal of the upper and visible skin layer. The main focus here is on smoothing out unwanted wrinkles. Laser treatment in particular is often associated with skin resurfacing, as it was one of the first procedures that made it possible to completely renew the appearance of the skin. The modern RF microneedling offered in our practice also has an additional handpiece that can be used to supplement the procedure with a CO2 laser treatment. This further intensifies the repair and regeneration processes.
In CO2 laser treatment, the tissue is treated precisely with laser energy. This leads to vaporization, which in turn stimulates collagen formation. The many small treatment points make it possible to treat a large area of skin without exposing the body to a great deal of stress. There are intact tissue sections between the treatment points, from which rapid healing is ensured.
When is radiofrequency microneedling suitable?
RF needling can be used for various aesthetic treatments on the face, décolleté or hands. The procedure has established itself particularly in the gentle treatment of wrinkles. The method also achieves a slight lifting effect. RF microneedling is also suitable for repairing sun-damaged skin and removing pigmentation spots reduce pigment spots. The complexion is also refreshed and revitalized by the intensive treatment. In our skin center, we have also had good experiences with improving stretch marks and large pores. Smaller scars can also be reduced with RF microneedling.
Is the skin anesthetized?
In RF needling, a large number of fine needles are inserted into the skin, which then deliver the radio frequency energy to the tissue. The needles hardly cause any pain and their effect triggers the body’s natural repair processes. To make the treatment even more comfortable for patients, the areas of skin to be treated are anesthetized locally with a cream beforehand. General anesthesia is not necessary, however, as the procedure is extremely gentle.
How long does RF microneedling take?
The duration of treatment depends on the size and number of treatment regions. It also plays a role whether RF needling is carried out individually or in combination with CO2 laser treatment. On average, patients should expect the treatment to take between 30 and 60 minutes, sometimes up to 90 minutes. You can leave our skin center just a short time after the radiofrequency microneedling treatment. The areas will be slightly reddened or swollen temporarily. This is completely normal and subsides automatically after a short time. You should therefore allow for a few days of downtime, especially when combining laser treatment. In addition, always protect the treatment areas from UV radiation to prevent irritation and possible pigment shifts.
When are the results visible?
The effect of RF microneedling takes some time, as the new collagen is built up gradually. Gradually, the fresh collagen firms the tissue, builds it up and visibly rejuvenates the skin. The first results can be seen after about two to three months. It can take about six months until the final result of the treatment is achieved.
How regularly should RF microneedling take place?
At the beginning of treatment with RF microneedling, we usually recommend a build-up phase to our patients, which comprises around three treatments. The individual treatments take place at intervals of four to eight weeks. Depending on the condition of the skin and the desired result, more treatments may be advisable. This will be discussed with you individually.
In order to maintain the results achieved, RF microneedling can also be repeated at regular intervals. A six- or twelve-month cycle is usually the best option here. The intervals are adapted to your individual requirements. RF microneedling can also be combined with other gentle procedures at our skin center, such as a hyaluronic acid treatment, a HydraFacial™ treatment or intensive care with cosmeceuticals.
