They usually start during puberty: Skin blemishes and pimples. The hormonal changes in the body are noticeable on the skin of many young people. Almost everyone is familiar with pimples and blackheads. Around half of adolescents have so-called physiological acne during puberty, in which pimples and blackheads appear from time to time and disappear again after a while. For around 40 percent of adolescents, however, the situation is different: They suffer from moderate to severe acne, which is characterized by reddened skin, hardening, severe pimple formation and painful pustules and lumps. In some people, this disease of the sebaceous glands is also present in adulthood. In addition to the unpleasant appearance, the skin often itches, burns and tightens.
How does AviClear® work?
AviClear® works with laser light at a wavelength of 1,726 nm. This reaches the sebaceous glands directly, so the treatment targets the exact cause of the acne. The impulses emitted “reprogram” the sebaceous glands, which then become less active. At the same time, an integrated cooling system ensures that the top layer of skin is not damaged and that the treatment is comfortable.
The aim of laser treatment is to reduce the body’s own sebum production. This reduces skin impurities and acne. The inflammatory and hardened nodules of acne are also effectively treated in this way. Complaints such as itching and burning are reduced and the appearance of the skin improves.
The procedure is still relatively new in Germany – in the USA, AviClear® has been in use for more than a year and a half and has shown very good results. This experience and excellent effect make AviClear® a safe and reliable method of reducing skin disease in the long term and improving the appearance of the skin.
How long does a treatment with AviClear® take?
During the treatment, the AviClear® laser is guided over the skin point by point, with the laser energy only acting on the individual treatment points for a few seconds at a time. The facial treatment takes about 30 minutes in total. You can leave our practice immediately after the treatment. No downtime is to be expected after the treatment.
What is important after AviClear® treatment?
In principle, you can continue with your usual activities after the laser treatment without any major restrictions. You should only avoid heat and sweating (e.g. sport, sauna, solarium) for about one to two days. In addition, you should not use any products or undergo any treatments in the affected area that could cause skin irritation or stress your skin. Only use care products that do not irritate the skin. You can apply suitable moisturizers to further soothe the skin. We will be happy to advise you.
Consistent sun protection is also very important. If possible, do not expose the treated areas to direct sunlight. Also use sun cream with a high sun protection factor (SPF 50+). In any case, sun protection is very important when it comes to acne and should also be taken into account independently of laser treatment – because acne can be demonstrably worsened by UV radiation.
Some patients may experience a temporary worsening of the inflammatory skin changes shortly after laser treatment before the skin condition improves. If desired, the inflammation can be covered with special acne make-up.
How many treatments are necessary?
On average, three treatment sessions are recommended to effectively treat moderate to severe acne. Individual differences are possible, so that each treatment is planned and adapted personally. After each treatment, the sebaceous glands produce less oily sebum, which can clog the pores. This also reduces acne breakouts: they occur less frequently and are less pronounced. Existing acne symptoms on the skin often improve shortly after the first application.
The individual treatments take place at intervals of around four weeks. After completion of the first treatment cycle, the results achieved last for up to two years. The result can be maintained by regularly refreshing the laser treatment. The follow-up treatments are also determined individually. It usually makes sense to repeat the treatment after around nine to twelve months with one session.
