Even in ancient times, women with full lips were considered attractive and beautiful. Even today, sensual and curved lips are often part of the beauty ideal, but not everyone is given full lips. They can be naturally thinner or lose volume over time. Due to the natural reduction in elasticity and hydration, they can become thinner and drier and show small wrinkles. If more fullness is desired for the lips, a treatment with hyaluronic acid can help. The active ingredient is very well tolerated, biodegradable and achieves a natural-looking, harmonious result when used correctly.
How does lip augmentation with hyaluronic acid work?
To plump up the lips with hyaluronic acid, the active ingredient is injected into the lip with a thin cannula to sculpt it. The area is usually anesthetized locally beforehand with an external cream and/or an injection (similar to the dentist) so that the patient does not feel anything from the treatment. The injection usually takes no longer than 15 to 30 minutes.
Hyaluronic acid has a strong lifting effect. It binds a lot of liquid and is therefore able to compensate for volume deficits. It is therefore often used in aesthetic medicine to build up tissue and thus indirectly to smooth wrinkles, contour individual areas or even to enlarge the lips. As it gently fills the areas, it is also known as a filler or dermal filler.
In addition to the filling effect, hyaluronic acid also has a positive effect on moisturization. As a result, it can not only add fullness to the lips, but also make them smoother and more elastic. The hyaluronic acid injected “deep down” also stimulates the body to form new connective tissue (collagen), so that an additional tightening effect sets in over time.
Type-appropriate lip contouring: naturalness instead of exaggerated lips
In the case of lip augmentation, it is particularly important to plan the treatment in advance and to discuss the possible results in detail with the practitioner. After all, the lips should not look artificial or too plump after the treatment. The aim is to create a harmonious fullness that matches the other facial proportions. Lip treatment with hyaluronic acid therefore also requires a great deal of experience and aesthetic flair, as the results can otherwise quickly appear artificial or exaggerated. An approximate ratio of one to two between the upper lip and lower lip is considered ideal.
Careful consultation and information about the options should therefore take place before any aesthetic treatment. If the patient’s ideas and wishes are unrealistic or would lead to a very artificial appearance, we also advise against treatment in our practice – because we do not want to encourage you to undergo unnecessary treatments, but rather advise and treat you honestly and conscientiously.
Dr. Kors will be happy to advise you in a personal consultation at the practice. Not only is he an experienced dermatology specialist who has been performing aesthetic treatments for more than 20 years, he is also a member of the German Society for Aesthetic Botulinum and Filler Therapy (DGBT) and therefore a proven expert in the field who can help you achieve your desired appearance – with aesthetic flair and a high degree of quality and safety.
Equalizing asymmetries of the lips
Injections with hyaluronic acid also offer the possibility of correcting any asymmetries or unpleasant shapes of the lips. The hyaluronic acid is injected specifically into the areas of the lips that are to be contoured. This allows subtle changes to be achieved.
However, just like the increase in volume, the shape correction also wears off after a few months, as the hyaluronic acid is broken down by the body. If a lasting result is desired, the treatment must be carried out at regular intervals so that the effects are refreshed. The duration of treatment is usually around three to four months.
What to do if the result is unsatisfactory?
With an experienced doctor, there are usually no unpleasant results or complications. Asymmetries are therefore very rare. If they do occur, small corrections can be made afterwards. In addition, patients may not feel as comfortable with fuller lips as they had hoped. The results of lip augmentation with hyaluronic acid are not permanent. The active ingredient is gradually broken down, so that after a few months the original appearance of the lips is restored. If you feel extremely uncomfortable with your new lips, a special enzyme can also be injected to accelerate the breakdown of the hyaluronic acid and thus reverse the results of the treatment.
However, by providing detailed advice and information in advance, we endeavor to make the possible treatment results clear to you so that you have a realistic idea of the results and can adjust to them. Your satisfaction is particularly important to us.
