The eyes reveal a lot about a person’s inner state. Joy, astonishment, sadness or anger can often be read in the gaze alone. If the fine eyelid skin sags and lowers as a result, this usually causes a tired, tired and older-looking appearance. With an eyelid lift in Berlin can counteract this development. The modern Plasmage® procedure is an alternative to traditional surgical treatment options. In addition to “solid”, “liquid” and “gaseous”, “plasma” – the basis of this non-surgical method for eyelid lifting – is often characterized as the fourth state of matter. Plasma has been used in medicine for a long time, for example in ENT surgery and for sterilizing medical equipment. Our new article reveals how it can help to correct sagging eyelids and wrinkles.

How does plasma treatment work?
Plasmage® enables precise treatment of sagging eyelids and wrinkles. The mode of action is based on the ionization of the air. When the approximately 0.5 millimeter wide tip of the Plasmage® attachment touches the upper layers of the skin, electrical energy is released. Atmospheric plasma is created. Contrary to what the description might suggest, however, no current flows through the patient’s body. There is only a reaction with the water in the skin. The short and intense heat development vaporizes small particles on the upper skin layer, causing minimal injuries (micro wounds). These tiny wounds heal naturally and quickly. The resulting stimulated skin renewal process and collagen synthesis lead to fresh-looking, healthy skin and also achieve a firming effect.
What results are possible?
The Plasmage® treatment generally achieves very natural-looking and quickly visible results. It does not involve surgery, anesthesia or scars. However, it should be noted that minimally invasive methods have certain limitations. Excessive tissue can usually only be removed with the help of surgery. The tightening effect of a Plasmage® treatment is less pronounced compared to a surgical facelift. In order to determine whether the plasma treatment can achieve the desired result, a detailed consultation and careful examination by the expert takes place beforehand.
The upper eyelid lift with Plasmage® in detail
The treatment area is first made insensitive to pain with a local anesthetic. After cleansing the skin, the areas to be treated are precisely marked on the skin. The doctor then guides the Plasmage® device point by point along the upper and/or lower eyelids. The discharge on the surface of the skin causes tiny micro-wounds that trigger the skin’s own regeneration process. The body produces new collagen and hyaluron. The deeper layers of tissue remain intact during treatment. The sterilizing properties of the plasma ensure that the micro wounds heal quickly without the risk of scarring. The Plasmage® treatment removes excess skin, causing the areas to “shrink” or tighten. On average, the treatment takes 30 to 45 minutes.
What should I look out for after the treatment?
The eyelid lift with Plasmage® is performed on an outpatient basis. Patients can leave the practice immediately after treatment. It is possible that the eyelids will be swollen and red immediately after the Plasmage® application. The swelling and redness usually do not last longer than three to five days. A light scab forms on the micro-wounds, which heals on its own after about three to five days. Therefore, patients should not schedule any important appointments in the week following treatment, as some traces of Plasmage® therapy may still be visible during this period. We usually recommend our patients to have the treatment at the beginning of the week and to take vacation for the rest of the week. This allows the eye area to recover and regenerate.
The healing process can be supported by applying wound and healing ointment. The treated areas should be protected from direct sunlight for around eight to twelve weeks. Sauna and sports are possible again without restrictions after the micro wounds have completely healed. Dry cooling with cool packs can reduce swelling and promote faster healing.
Can “drooping eyelids” and “bags under the eyes” reappear?
Drooping eyelids (drooping tissue on the upper eyelid) and bags under the eyes (sagging lower eyelids) give the eye area a tired look. An eyelid lift (using minimally invasive or surgical methods, depending on the extent of the sagging) can reduce them, making the face look younger and more radiant. Since no aesthetic treatment can completely stop the natural aging process, tissue sagging in the eye area can occur again over time. How long the effect of Plasmage®, for example, lasts depends on various individual factors such as skin type, age and lifestyle. As a rule, the duration of effect is about two years.
