Fat-away injection as an alternative to liposuction?

Fat-away injection in Berlin | Weißensee Skin CenterThe ideal beach figure is an ideal of beauty for which many people specifically focus on a balanced, healthy diet and exercise. However, these measures do not always lead to the desired result. Stubborn fat deposits on the stomach, arms or legs can make it difficult to achieve your desired figure. The fat-away injection in Berlin is a way of removing unwanted fat cells without surgical liposuction. What happens during liposuction? How does injection lipolysis work and can it fully replace surgical liposuction?

Surgical liposuction – what options are there?

The common standard method for surgical liposuction is the so-called tumescent technique. A special liquid (tumescent solution) is injected into the tissue. After an exposure time of around 30 minutes, the tissue to be removed is loosened so that the fat cells can be suctioned out more easily.

The principle of liposuction has been continuously developed over the years. With the WAL method (water-jet assisted liposuction), a water fan removes the unwanted fat cells from the tissue. It is therefore no longer necessary to apply and work in a special solution. Other procedures are based on ultrasound, vibration or radio frequency energy to loosen the fat cells and make them easier to suction out.

Depending on the method used and the extent of the tissue to be removed, the treatment time may vary. It is usually between one and three hours. Liposuction is usually performed under general anesthesia or under local anesthesia with twilight sleep. Patients then wear a special compression girdle for around six weeks.

How does treatment with the fat-away injection work?

The problem areas defined during the consultation are marked on the skin on the day of the treatment with the fat-away syringe and the areas are disinfected. The active ingredient called phosphatidylcholine is injected under the skin using a thin cannula. Anesthesia is not necessary for this, as the method is very painless. However, if the patient wishes, an anesthetic ointment can be applied to the areas beforehand. Depending on the size of the treatment area, injection lipolysis takes around 15 to 30 minutes.

Patients do not have to be hospitalized after the injection, but can go home again. The aftercare measures are also straightforward: it is advisable to wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing for the first few days after injection lipolysis, as the treatment areas usually swell slightly and are more sensitive to touch. Regular cooling can help the harmless swelling to subside. Patients should also drink plenty of fluids to promote the removal of fat cells.

How injection lipolysis works

The natural active ingredient phosphatidylcholine stimulates the breakdown of fat. By injecting into the affected problem areas, they can be shaped and contoured in a targeted manner. The destroyed fat cells are absorbed by the body and eventually excreted. This process takes several weeks, so the result of the fat-away injection cannot be assessed immediately after the injection. Experience has also shown that several treatments at regular intervals are recommended in order to achieve the desired result. The doctor will discuss how many these are in the specific case during the individual consultation with the patient.

Indications and areas of application for the fat-away syringe

Fat-away injections can achieve good results, especially in the case of easily localized, small fat deposits that are considered unpleasant. These are often located on the abdomen, hips, thighs, upper arms, back or the underside of the chin (double chin). Injection lipolysis can also stimulate fat loss in other parts of the body and thus support a slim body contour.

When is the fat-away injection not suitable?

The fat-away injection is less suitable for treating larger fat deposits. It should therefore only be seen as an alternative to surgical liposuction if the fat deposits are small and localized. Liposuction remains the method of choice for extensive treatment areas. Even with pronounced “saddlebags” or lipedema (fat distribution disorder on the limbs), surgery is usually necessary to remove the fat cells and reshape the body.

Furthermore, treatment with the fat-away injection is also not carried out if the following contraindications are present:

  • Inflammation or injuries in the treatment area
  • a generally poor state of health
  • Known illnesses (e.g. blood clotting disorders, cardiovascular diseases)
  • Allergies to the active ingredients used
  • Minority
  • Pregnancy/breastfeeding
