Emsella® – how the method helps in professional sport

BTL Emsella Dr. Kors
BTL Medizintechnik GmbH

The BTL Emsella® is a non-invasive method for targeted muscle training. The procedure primarily targets the pelvic floor muscles in order to reduce the risk of bladder weakness or alleviate existing symptoms. But professional athletes are also increasingly integrating the method into their plans. In addition to the pelvic floor, the so-called core muscles also benefit from treatment with BTL Emsella®. Strengthening the core increases performance in sport and provides more strength and endurance. The procedure also achieves a general improvement in quality of life. Patients are usually more satisfied with their bodies and feel more comfortable as a result. Below you will find out how Emsella® works and what benefits the treatment offers.

How are the muscles strengthened?

The BTL Emsella® works with an electromagnetic field. It generates highly focused electromagnetic energy that is delivered to the deep muscles in the body. The energy impulses cause a supramaximal contraction of the pelvic floor. This means that the targeted muscles contract and then loosen up again – just like during conventional training. This builds up the muscles and makes them stronger.

How does a session with Emsella® work?

The treatment is very uncomplicated and gentle. The patient takes a seat on the BTL Emsella® chair, dressed. He stays there for about 20 to 30 minutes and lets the highly focused energy do its work. During this time, the patient can simply rest, read something or listen to music. The only important thing is that no electrical devices may be used on the Emsella®.

Emsella®: a much more intensive workout than is possible with conventional methods

Treatment with Emsella® addresses and builds up muscle groups – just as in sport. However, no movements are required. This also means that there is no “incorrect execution” that can strain the body or damage joints, for example. At the same time, it is an extremely intensive workout, which is why the method is so popular among professional athletes. One treatment session produces around 11,500 muscle contractions, which cannot be achieved in the same amount of time with conventional training. The muscles are therefore trained 100 percent.

Further advantages of Emsella®

Strengthening the muscles is not just limited to the pelvic floor. The lower back, abdominal muscles and the entire core of the body are also stimulated. This strengthens the body’s important support structure. The organs are supported and tightened in position, which also increases individual performance. In addition, strengthened core muscles improve posture, which is often reflected in a confident and self-assured appearance.

Emsella® also offers the following advantages:

  • No surgery
  • No scars
  • No surgery, gentle treatment
  • outpatient
  • Short treatment time
  • No anesthesia or sedation
  • low-pain and low-risk
  • Treatment takes place fully clothed
  • No downtime
  • No scars
  • No special preparation and aftercare required
  • Few contraindications (e.g. electronic implants such as pacemakers) and therefore suitable for (almost) all people
  • Suitable for younger and older patients (prerequisite: age of majority)
  • Does the Emsella® treatment cause pain?

Emsella® is considered to be extremely gentle and painless. Additional anesthesia is not necessary – the treatment causes a tingling sensation or a noticeable vibration, which is, however, well tolerated and not painful. Since every sensation is individual, the treatment can be perceived and assessed differently from person to person. However, it is not usually accompanied by pain. Experience has shown that there is no pain even after use. However, as with normal training, this can lead to so-called muscle soreness. This can be particularly noticeable in the buttocks and stomach area. It usually subsides after a few days.

    Where else is Emsella® used?

Emsella® is suitable for anyone who wants to strengthen and build up their core muscles in depth. This is often accompanied by a desire for greater performance. However, treatment with BTL Emsella® can also be beneficial from a medical point of view. Especially in cases of bladder weakness, which is often caused by weakened pelvic floor muscles in women (e.g. due to childbirth, the natural ageing process or as a result of the menopause and hormonal changes). Intensive strengthening of the pelvic floor muscles often reduces discomfort and alleviates unpleasant incontinence. Furthermore, pelvic floor training can also have a positive effect on sexual sensation and increase pleasure.
