A person has an average of five million hairs distributed over the body. The number is roughly the same for men and women, even if it may sometimes appear that many men have more body hair. One reason for this is that hair growth in men is often stronger and darker due to the stronger influence of testosterone, whereas hair on the arms, chest and back of women is usually finer, lighter and therefore less noticeable.
However, body hair cannot be divided strictly according to gender and is very individual from person to person. Some men have dark and thick hair, especially on the back and chest. If these are perceived as disturbing, various treatment options are available to reduce them. An almost permanent solution against annoying chest or back hair is the modern laser treatment for hair removal Berlin .
Reasons for laser hair removal on the back
Whether body hair is perceived as annoying is very individual and depends on your own ideal of beauty. Patients should not be tempted to undergo aesthetic or cosmetic treatment due to external pressure, but should always feel comfortable with the decision themselves. This is very important for the success of the treatment.
Hair on the back in particular can be considered unsightly and annoying. While other parts of the body are relatively easy to depilate yourself (shaving, waxing), the back is more difficult. Although there are special shavers and solutions for this, patients who are interested in back hair removal are usually interested in a permanent solution so that the hair does not have to be constantly removed.
How does laser treatment work?
Laser hair removal is carried out in our skin center with the LightSheer® laser. This is a diode laser that emits light energy with a wavelength of 805 nm into the tissue. These impulses are absorbed by the hair follicles and converted into heat. This damages the hair follicles and the hair root, causing hair growth to stop.
The laser is designed so that it can also treat large areas in one session. In addition, an integrated cooling system ensures that the skin surface is cooled. The risk of skin burns and irritation is therefore reduced to a minimum. In addition, the constant cooling anesthetizes the treatment area, which reduces the sensation of pain. Laser hair removal can therefore usually be tolerated very well without additional anesthesia. In particularly sensitive areas (e.g. the upper lip, in the intimate zone), an anesthetic ointment can be applied in advance on request to make the area less sensitive to pain.
For which areas is laser treatment suitable?
In principle, the laser system can be used to remove any hair that is perceived as unwanted. Common areas of application include the legs and armpits. For men, the chest and back are also popular areas for permanent hair removal.
Even small areas can be treated with the laser. These include, for example, fine, dark hairs above the upper lip. Women often find these unsightly. Upper lip hairs can appear with advancing age in particular, as the hormonal balance changes.
Is all hair removed?
The hair goes through a certain cycle that is constantly repeated. It consists of the growth phase, the transition phase and the resting phase. As soon as the hair follicles have regenerated, they return to the growth phase.
The laser treatment targets the hairs that are in the growth phase. This means that not all hairs in an area can be removed at the same time. The treatment is repeated for an optimal result of smooth skin. There are several weeks between each session. This ensures that as many hairs as possible are affected during the growth phase and ultimately fall out as desired.
It is not possible to say in general terms how many individual treatments are necessary. The number of sessions required varies depending on how large the treatment area is and how well or less well the body responds to the treatment. More detailed information and an assessment are provided in a personal consultation.
Is the result permanent?
Laser therapy is often referred to as permanent hair removal. Complete and permanent elimination of hair growth can never be 100 percent guaranteed. However, the results are very long-lasting, so experience has shown that the skin remains as hair-free as possible for several years. We recommend a refresher treatment once a year to maintain the result.
